The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
